Kruja (Albania)

1. How to go

 

Here are many buses to Kruje from Tirana. They depart from the road right next to the municipal building in the city center. The town is easily accessible by direct bus from Tirana. The trip takes approximately 45 minutes, costs 150 lek (November 2019) each way, and departs from the bus station. Current bus departure times from Tirana are 10am, 11am, 1pm, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, but are subject to change. Furgons to c also run often from the Northern Albania Regional Bus Terminal - Terminali i Autobuzave te Veriut. From Fushe-Kruje, you can take a bus up to Kruje for 100 leke (November 2019). The drop off point for such furgons in Fushe-Kruje meet other furgons for Durres and Tirana.

2. Culture Values

 

Historical town, inhabited since the 3rd century B.C. located 32 km from Tirana. This city is related with the name of Gjergj Kastriot Scanderbeg, our national hero. Of great interest, the Scanderbeg Castle and its museum designed as an ancient fortress. You can buy souvenirs and locally made handcrafts in the famous old Bazaar of Kruja.

3. What to do

 

The famous English painter, Edward Lear (1812 -1888) who visited Kruje in 1848 wrote: " Kruje, a charming little town all up in the sky".In Kruja you can visit:

- The Fortress which was built in the 5th and 6th centuries after the abandonment of Albanopolis. The walls were rebuilt in the 13th century by Charles 1 of Anjou and rebuilt again later.

-The Mosque (formerly a Christian Church)

-The Bektashi (teach that God is the divine spirit of goodness)

-The Ethnographic Museum

-The museum Gjergj Kastriot Scanderbeg

-The Bazaar
