Lively, colorful Tirana is where this tiny nation's hopes and dreams coalesce into a vibrant whirl of traffic, brash consumerism and unfettered fun. Having undergone a transformation of extraordinary proportions since awaking from its communist slumber in the early 1990s, Tirana's center is now unrecognizable from those grey days, with buildings painted in primary colors, and public squares and pedestrian streets that are a pleasure to wander.
The most important date in Tirana’s (Albanian Capital) history is February 11th, 1920, when the Lushnja Congress declared Tirana the provisional capital of Albania; definitive status would be given in 1925. Following this act, the city has experienced constant growth, which continues today and has gained particular momentum since 1990.
Famous Italian architects made the center of Tirana their project during the early parts of the 20th century. The main boulevard in Tirana, Boulevard Dëshmorët e Kombit, was built in 1930, while the central square, Skanderbeg Square, was built between 1928 and 1929. In 1968, on the 500th anniversary of his death, national hero Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg had a monument inaugurated in Skanderbeg Square. Twenty years afterward, in the square was added the monument of the dictator Enver Hoxha. Shortly after on the 20 February 1991 the students and the people removed the monument from the square. In Tirana, you can visit a network of museums and galleries such as the National History Museum, the Archaeology Museum, the National Art Gallery, and many more, including numerous private galleries.

3. What to do
Each monument has its own complicated and emotionally-charged story to tell, whether it’s about 20th-century oppression or daily life in Tirana in Ottoman times. And if things get too hot in the summer you’re free to cool off in the Adriatic sea, which is an easy drive away.
Tirana has a lot of things to do starting from Historical sightseeing's, Skenderbeg square which is the main historical center of Tirana , you can visit the national museum for better knowing the general history of albania,
"Bunkart" and House of Leaves Museums which are dedicated to Dictatorship period of History .
You can have a nice walk in the main boulevard from the administrative area , Gallery of Arts, the Pyramid and the public university, discover the "Blloku" neighborhood which is the most frequented place in Tirana because all the restaurants Bars and clubs are located there.
You can Visit Mountain Dajti national Park which is only 15 minutes away from the center of Tirana. Fresh air and a beautiful panoramic view of the city
You can also Visit the artificial lake park not far from the city center.
